Sheng-Yuan Lynch
Sheng-Yuan Lynch, currently 13 years old, showed a great interest in piano at
the age of three and learnt to play the instrument by ear. In 2012, he began
lessons with Shan Deng. He has performed in places such as China, Sydney,
Melbourne and Hobart, and has many competition successes including first prize
for National Sydney Golden Talent Cup Competition, first prize for Brenda Hean
Pianoforte Competition, winning TMTA Award for most promising junior pianist
and the prestigious Nelle Ashdown Memorial Award and multiple other special
awards at the Hobart Eisteddfod. He was also the winner of the International
Great Composers Competition in all four categories he competed in, which had
participants from all over the world. Sheng-Yuan passed his AMEB Associate
Diploma exam and Licentiate Diploma exam with distinction, being one of the
youngest candidates to gain this achievement and receive his diploma at the
UTAS Graduation Ceremony. He took part in the TSO TYO Big Rehearsal in 2017,
performing Shostakovich Piano Concerto No2 Op12 1st Mvt. Sheng-Yuan has been
invited to perform the Grieg Piano Concerto in October in NSW with the
Macquarie Symphony Orchestra and was recently announced as the winner of the
Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Rising Star Competition.
Artist and Teacher Mahdi Chandler lives in Gordon, Tasmania, working from her studio located on the property. Mahdi uses mixed media techniques to
make 2D and 3D artwork that directly relates to the D’Entrecasteaux environment and the surrounding land, sea and skyscapes. During the covid closures and interstate teaching postponements, Mahdi has taken the opportunity to undertake some professional development,
participating in a range of workshops outside her usual fields of interest,
this has enabled her to work in some new and unexpected directions.
