Ivan James
Ivan James began cello studies with Phillipa Jackson at the age of ten and went on to study his BMus at the New South Wales Conservatorium of Music under Lois Simpson, Nathan Waks and David Pereira. In 1982 Ivan was the Commonwealth winner of the string section of the ABC Instrumental and Vocal Competition, playing Bloch’s Schelomo with both the SSO and the QSO. From 1982-83 he was a casual cellist with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra until taking up a position with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. In 1984 Ivan was a soloist in Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with the TSO. Ivan is a dedicated chamber musician appearing with many ensembles including the Tasmanian Symphony Chamber players, Seraphim String Quartet and the Tasman String Quartet, he has played for Tas. Dance tours and many recordings for ABC Classic FM. He has played concerts in Hobart and throughout Tasmania most recently with Virtuosi Tasmania.
John Redeker is a photographer who has lived in the Channel district for nearly forty years. At all times focused on the aesthetic, his main interest is photography of Tasmania’s magnificent landscapes in standout moments of lighting or
weather. Capturing the passing parade of our disappearing heritage as seen in our island’s humble workers’ cottages and crumbling country bridges is another theme he will travel far and wide to record. He is also captivated by the challenge of bird photography and the rewards that it can bring.
