Jan Sedivka Camerata

Jan Sedivka was born in Czechoslovakia in 1917. After a period of teaching and performing in England he moved to Tasmania in 1966 and was Director of the Conservatory of Music from 1972-82. Renowned as a violinist, Jan Sedivka was one of Australia's most influential and innovative music teachers, making an immeasurable impact on many musicians throughout his life. The Jan Sedivka Camerata was formed in 2009 to pay tribute to Jan Sedivka, keeping his legacy alive. Since its formation the Camerata have performed regularly at the Conservatorium of Music and have presented successful tours of Tasmania.

For this concert the Camerata will consist of 14 violins, 4 violas, 6 cellos and 2 double basses.

  • Suite for String Orchestra H93 – Frank Bridge (1879-1941)
  • Simple Symphony Op 4 – Edward Benjamin Britten (1913-1976)

Jeremy Williams

Following a period with the London Symphony Orchestra, Jeremy Williams was invited to join the internationally acclaimed Delme String Quartet and has since been dedicated to chamber music. As a member of the Nash Ensemble he played both violin and viola, and was also violinist for several years with the York Piano Trio.

In 1998 Jeremy took up the position of Principal Viola with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2003 he moved to Australia as a member the Australian string Quartet, later the Grainger Quartet. As a chamber musician he has appeared at major international festivals including Edinburgh, Cheltenham, Bath, Salzburg, Hong Kong, Sydney, Adelaide and Prague Spring. Jeremy is currently Lecturer in Chamber Music at the Hobart Conservatorium of Music.
